| Latest feed from Extensions for Joomla sh404sef and Joomfish 2 compatibility I have just completed Joomfish 2.0 compatibility, and the current development version available from download.siliana.com is now working with Joomfish. Meaning you can now have SEF urls on a Joomla 1.5.x multi-lingual site! As of today, there are still a couple of things you need to know : this was done with an svn version of Joomfish, dating from around nov. 7 using sh404sef and Joomfish requires that you turn off the Language selection module translation caching. This is done using this Joomfish module backend parameter. I already have a version of sh404sef that will check and turn off caching of the module, and will upload it probably today. This requirement will stay at the moment, there is a small glitch in Joomfish, and the caching setting mentioned above is not properly used. Meaning that if you turn it off, caching will still be used in the module, and therefore SEF will not work properly. The only workaround, until that is fixed in Joomfish, is to disable translation caching globally. This is done in Joomfish general parameters, available on Joomfish main control panel. As mentionned, this will not be a requirement in the future, as only disabling translation caching in the language selection module will keep being required Best regards One Joomla day in Switzerland I have been lucky enough to be invited by Pete Coutts and the Joomla! Switzerland team to participate in their first Joomladay. It all happened in Luzern, on November 15. Attendance was large, and everyone has been impressed by the quality of the organization, especially for a first time! I was of course thrilled to meet face to face with famous "Joomla world" people like Wilco Jansen , Angie Radtke , Beat from Community builder (the guy is a native french-speaker!), Ivo from Joomfish , Soeren from Virtuemart or Johan Jansen from Nooku. I made a general presentation of sh404sef, with also a taste of new features that are incorporated. I was able to tell Ivo that sh404sef works with Joomfish for Joomla 1.5 now (though there is a glitch in current JF version, but that can be worked around - I'll do another post about that). I just put the slides of my talk online : have a look if you want to have an overview, plus a few tips on using sh404sef . Thanks again to all who organized, spoke or attended, for making this a very useful day. The ultimate Joomla 1.5-Virtuemart book Hi, Today I'd like to say a word about the best Joomla 1.5/Virtuemart book I ever came across (OK, that's pretty much the only one I have read on the matter, but it is really great). Before I start, you have to know that it is written in French, so I guess it may be of little interest to most of you. If you have however minimal command of the language, but a maximal interesest in building up an online shop using Joomla 1.5.x and Virtuemart 1.1.x, that's the only book you'll need. It comes from Valérie Isaksen , renown Virtuemart specialist, who authored several payment modules for all major French banks. She is also the French translator of Virtuemart, and has been professionally building e-shops using Joomla+Virtuemart for years. She's been helped by Thierry Tardif, Joomla specialist, from http://www.alpha-design.fr/ . The book has everything you would expect, including a detailed description and step-by-step how-to on using Virtuelart to build a real online shop. All major road-blocks are covered, like setting up categories and products, shipping methods, payment methods, etc In addition, it also guides you through settingup your Joomla, adding articles, even setting up your development environment and then moving your site online when it's ready. Plus a complete documentation on theming Virtuemart, with complete lists of all files involved. But what makes it the ultimate reference for me is that it also will take you through all the "good practices"to make your shop successfull. In other words, the book is not only about how to use a piece of software, but also about making a business plan, a few legal considerations, marketing (and of course SEO:) ) Valérie has setup a dedicated site for the book at http://boutique-virtuemart.com . There you'll find links to buy it from Amazon. Seriously needed if you are considering building an online shop.... |
